Urban Decay Perversion Mascara Review

Hi everyone! I actually think I only fully reviewed one mascara before, back in 2015, so it’s high time for another review! And my current mascara is the Urban Decay Perversion Mascara.

The price:

$24.00, which is standard for a high-end mascara. I have a sample size, which was actually a free gift with purchase. I think the mini retails for $12.00.

The packaging:

Yes, it’s a mini, so the packaging is probably not quite the same as the full-size version. However, it’s still a very cool gunmetal look, and it’s pretty sleek packaging. It’s a thinner and longer tube than most of the mini mascaras I’ve seen. It looks understated compared to the bright neon plastics and weird textures, but it still fits the Urban Decay image and seems both sophisticated and edgy.

The wand:

The wand has pipe cleaner/wire bristles! For whatever reason, it feels like I haven’t seen a wand like this in ages. I think it might be that the metal holding the bristles in place is visible. The individual bristles are relatively long and aren’t super dense, which I prefer. Get too many bristles in too much space, and it feels like there’s not enough space for my lashes. It’s also a very simple shape as a cylinder that tapers off a little near the top.100_5260

The application:

First off, I’m lucky enough to naturally have pretty long lashes to start. I don’t feel like I really have a preference in terms of volume or length. My lashes are kind of straight so any curling effects are appreciated.

I really enjoy this mascara for my top lashes. The big thing I see with this mascara is that it coats my individual lashes and makes them look very separated and fluttery. It’s more of a natural glam mascara – like my normal lashes, just amplified.

I’m not as crazy over the bottom lashes. I think I prefer my lower lashes to clump a little bit more than the top. This mascara is also just a bit more natural, and while I like that for the top lashes, there’s not enough happening to my bottom lashes.

The wear:

I’ve never had a problem with mascara smudging or anything in general, so I can’t talk about that. But this doesn’t flake off throughout the day and does last throughout the day.

The verdict:

The Urban Decay Perversion Mascara is actually one of my favorite mascaras. For most mascaras, I realize how much I like it after I finish off the tube and switch to something else, but this is one that I’ve liked pretty much every time I’ve reached for it. It’s kind of hard for me to articulate exactly what it is that makes this so great to me.100_5253

That said, I can’t actually justify the price point of any high-end mascara, even this one. I’ve received a couple samples of this over the years, and may consider buying minis as an alternative. I may also try keeping the wand to use with other mascaras.

I do know that this isn’t for everyone. We all have different lashes and different preferences. For someone with shorter, thinner lashes but who wants more volume, this isn’t the mascara for you.
