Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream

Hey guys! Today I’ll be reviewing my collection of Nyx Soft Matte Lip Creams, which you’ve probably at least heard of, if not own. Matte lips are super popular, and Nyx has plenty of matte lippies to choose from!

The colors: Nyx has a good selection of colors, with 33 distinct shades. I personally own:

#8 San Paolo – plummy pink

#10 Monte Carlo – deep cranberry red

#11 Milan – mid-tone blue-toned pink

#18 Prague – matte merlot

(All color descriptions taken from Nyx’s website).

Swatches

The price: $5.99 at Target and Ulta.

The packaging: It’s a pretty standard clear tube with a doe-foot applicator. I do find that the tube makes the color a bit muted, so San Paolo, Milan, and Prague were all bought thinking they were more of an everyday shade than a bright.

The application: I find that these aren’t opaque with a single swipe, and do need to be layered. They can look a bit streaky, too, though.

The wear: Pretty comfortable. They can last a good 6+ hours comfortably, but do start to be a bit drying after that. They can still be worn after that point, but may start to fade and crack a bit. They’re not transfer-proof, and while I didn’t notice any feathering or smudging, these probably can be smudged by fingers or something.

The verdict: A good matte lip option, especially for the price! My biggest pet peeve is mostly the packaging making the colors look a bit more muted, but opacity and streakiness also dock this down to 4 out of 5.
